Pilgrimage Retreat Japan: Walking Home – A Journey of True Presence

We warmly invite you to join the Plum Village monastics on a 14-day pilgrimage in Japan. Ohenro (or Henro) is Japan’s most well-known and beloved Buddhist pilgrimage, a 1,200-kilometer (745-mile) circular journey around Shikoku that visits 88 temples.

A pilgrimage is an inner journey—a path of love and understanding. We will visit sacred temples and spiritual sites along the coastlines and deep in the mountains, embracing life as it unfolds each moment and arriving fully with each step. Through this journey, we cultivate a deep connection with ourselves, our spiritual ancestors, and Mother Earth, discovering that the path itself is our true home.

Some temples are located in villages, while others are in mountainous areas, so the practice will be in the spirit of hiking and connecting with nature. Most inter-temple travel will be done by bus. Prior experience with Plum Village Retreats is highly recommended but not required.
